The JCS Communications blog serves as the thought leadership repository for Joel Staley, a multilingual public relations professional with more than 25 years of experience.  Here he shares his communications experience, knowledge and recommendations in the areas of media relations, media interviews, brand communications, crisis communications and more.  During his career, Joel has trained c-suite executives, government leaders, celebrities, professional athletes and brand spokespersons to deliver more effective media interviews, public speeches and sales presentations. He’s represented clients in the travel & tourism, higher education, health care, financial services, legal services and sports industries. He’s trained dozens of spokespersons from the FORTUNE 500 including GE, Accenture, The Walt Disney Company, MTV Networks Latin America, Shell Oil Company, ChevronTexaco, Unilever and Georgia Pacific. He’s helped them tell their brand stories via interviews with the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times, People magazine, Associated Press, NPR Marketplace, CBS News 60 Minutes, and CNBC Squawkbox. Joel also has conducted numerous training sessions in Spanish for Unilever, State Farm and MTV Networks Latin America. He once trained the Mexico Secretary of Tourism for a challenging interview with legendary Univision anchor Jorge Ramos. During his career, Joel has worked as a PR director for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts and global public relations firms Edelman and Burson Cohn & Wolfe. He also has lectured at the University of Central Florida and Rollins College as a recognized expert in crisis communications. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in public relations. He won the 2016 PRSA Florida Radiance Award winner for crisis communications; 2021 National Boating Industry Safety Award for Top Marketing & Boating Safety Outreach Campaign; and, 2021 Neptune Award for Public Relations:  “Boating Safety Outreach Campaign.”  Joel lives near Orlando, Florida, is married to the love of his life, and has two beautiful sons.  And, when the waves are good, he likes throwing his board in the back of the truck and heading to a favorite surf spot.
